What is Women of Wisdom and Courage®?
At Women of Wisdom and Courage®, we empower survivors of domestic abuse to reclaim their lives with dignity and strength. Our SHIELD™ programme provides a safe, accessible and evidence-based pathway to healing, supporting women to break free from trauma, rediscover their inner light and step into a future of hope, resilience and self-empowerment.
Women of Wisdom and Courage was founded in 2019 by Dr Sally Olewe-Richards, a British social researcher, women's empowerment coach and fellow survivor/thriver of narcissistic abuse. The name draws on the serenity prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And Wisdom to know the difference.
We are never able to control the narcissist's behaviour, but we are able to change our reaction to it. By seeing the wisdom in controlling what we can and letting go of what we can't and finding the courage to take those next steps, we can begin our journey to healing.

Dr. Sally Olewe-Richards – Founder of Women of Wisdom and Courage®
Dr. Sally Olewe-Richards is the founder of Women of Wisdom and Courage® (WOWC), a global initiative dedicated to empowering women and making trauma recovery accessible. With a PhD in sociology and social policy, she combines her expertise in research, lived experience, and therapeutic skills to create innovative recovery programmes that support survivors of domestic abuse.
Sally launched the WOWC community in 2019, driven by a vision to provide a safe and supportive space for women navigating the aftermath of abuse. In 2020, she introduced the first trauma recovery programme, offering survivors structured healing tools. During the pandemic (2020-2022), she ran local support projects, providing lifelines to women facing domestic abuse during lockdowns.
In 2021, she published My Red Quilt, a powerful collection of poetry and artwork by survivors, which received 5-star reviews. That same year, she was a finalist for the Digital Women Awards – Role Model of the Year, recognising her impact in supporting women through digital platforms.
Sally was previously the Chair of Broxtowe Women’s Project (BWP) and led groundbreaking research for BWP and Nottinghamshire Police, exploring victims’ experiences of reporting domestic abuse. She continues her advocacy as a member of the Metropolitan Police Victims’ Voices Panel, influencing policy and practice for survivor-centred responses.
In 2022, Sally self-funded the development of the WOWC app, creating an affordable, accessible platform for survivors to heal in their own space and at their own pace. With founding members joining in 2023, the programme evolved into SHIELD™ in 2024, following a successful pilot funded by the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner. SHIELD™ now offers a comprehensive, integrative trauma recovery pathway.
A qualified life coach and clinical hypnotherapist, Sally is also trained in somatic approaches to healing trauma, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), mindfulness, and meditation. Her work is informed by both evidence-based practice and holistic healing, making recovery tools accessible and effective.
Currently, Sally is a Research Associate with the University of Nottingham and De Montfort University, leading a study on women survivors’ experiences of perimenopause (2024-2025), further amplifying the voices of women often overlooked in research and policy.
Passionate about creating a global sisterhood for healing, Sally’s mission is to ensure that every woman, no matter where she is in the world, has access to affordable, evidence-based recovery tools—empowering her to reclaim her life with dignity, strength, and courage.

The psychosensory therapy session gave me a wonderful transformational experience. After one 10 minute session when I think back to the traumatic situation my feelings have totally changed! Thank you for this! I feel so much lighter now.

Our Brand Story
The Story Behind Our Online Platform Colours and Logo
At Women of Wisdom and Courage® every element of our branding reflects our mission to empower, heal, and inspire. From our thoughtfully chosen online platform colours to our co-created logo, each detail symbolises the strength, resilience and transformation we aim to foster in women everywhere.
Our Logo: A Collective Vision of Empowerment
Our logo was created through collaboration with the women in our original online support community. To ensure it truly represented the heart of Women of Wisdom and Courage®, we invited them to share their thoughts and ideas during the design process.
The Process
Our graphic designer developed six initial concepts, each reflecting themes of healing, strength, and support. After gathering feedback from our community, we worked together to merge two of the most popular designs into the final logo.
The Design
• The woman’s profile symbolises individuality and inner strength.
• The hair forming a heart shape embodies compassion, care, and the love we bring to our work.
• The hands reaching out reflect the lifeline of support we provide to women on their journey of healing.
This logo is not just a symbol to recognise us and our work - it’s a testament to the power of collaboration, representing the collective voice and vision of our community.
Our Colours: A Palette of Courage and Transformation
Our online platform colours were chosen to represent the emotional and transformational journey of the women we serve.
• Purple: A symbol of courage, resilience, and healing. Widely associated with Domestic Abuse Awareness, purple reflects the strength it takes to break free and the hope for a brighter future.
• Black: Grounding and empowering, black represents resilience, authenticity, and the deep foundation of support our community offers. It is a reminder to stand tall in adversity.
• White: Hope and renewal. White conveys clarity, light and the safe space we create for women to heal, grow and thrive.
A Visual Reminder of Strength and Solidarity
Together, our colours and logo tell a powerful story: a journey from pain to healing, from struggle to empowerment, and from isolation to community.
At Women of Wisdom and Courage®, these visual elements are more than just design choices—they are symbols of the resilience within every woman and the unwavering support of a collective that believes in her power to heal and shine.
