What is Women of Wisdom and Courage (WOWC)®?
WOWC® is a global organisation, based in the UK, dedicated to empowering women impacted by domestic abuse. We offer affordable, evidence-based trauma recovery tools through our SHIELD™ programme, which is accessible via a digital platform. WOWC® was founded in 2019 by Dr Sally Olewe-Richards and became a trading name of her company 'Big Rocks Coaching and Consultancy Ltd' (Registered Company Number: 14600809) in 2023.
What is the SHIELD™ programme?
SHIELD™ is a trauma recovery programme designed to support survivors of domestic abuse. It uses an integrative, evidence-based approach covering Safety, Healing, Independence, Empowerment, Love and Dignity. The programme includes self-paced modules, guided exercises and access to a supportive online community.
How is the SHIELD™ programme different from traditional support services?
SHIELD™ is unique in it's low-cost, self-paced digital format, allowing survivors to access trauma recovery tools privately and safely from their own space. It offers a blend of therapeutic approaches, including trauma-informed practices, somatic techniques, and personal empowerment tools.
Is SHIELD™ suitable for all survivors of domestic abuse?
Yes, SHIELD™ is designed for survivors at various stages of recovery, whether they are seeking support for recent trauma or working through longer-term healing. The self-paced modules allow users to move at their own comfort level.
Where can I download the Women of Wisdom and Courage® app to access the SHIELD™ Programme?
Once I've downloaded the app how soon can I get started on the SHIELD™ Programme?
Straight away! Take a look through the resources and come and introduce yourself inside our friendly community. This is your safe space to ask questions, vent and support each other.
What can I access through the WOWC® app?
The app provides access to the full SHIELD™ programme, including trauma recovery modules, guided exercises and a secure support community. The app is designed to be discreet and easy to use.
How much does the WOWC® app subscription cost?
The app offers low-cost monthly subscriptions to keep it accessible for survivors. We are committed to ensuring affordability so that no woman is left without support.
Is it safe for me to do recovery work on my own at home?
Yes, being able to work on your recovery in your own safe space is helpful and this also means you can access the programme and support in your own time when it is convenient for you.

Is the app secure and confidential?
Yes, the WOWC® app prioritises privacy and security. Your data is encrypted and the platform offers anonymous community interaction to ensure confidentiality. WOWC® is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and follows GDPR guidelines.
How long will my subscription last once I download and join the Women of Wisdom and Courage® app?
You choose! There is no tie in period and everyone's journey is different, please feel free to stay as long as you need to. Some people choose to stay and support other women and then they can dip into the resources whenever challenging things come up too.
What if I can't afford the subscription?
We are committed to making trauma recovery accessible. If you're unable to afford the subscription, we recommend checking with partner organisations that may offer free access through funded initiatives.

How do I cancel my subscription?
If you have joined via the apple or android app stores all you need to do is
>go into your settings
>tap your name
>tap subscriptions
>find the subscription you wish to cancel
>then tap'cancel subscription'.
Then you can remove the app icon from your screen.
If you subscribe via passion.io
>log in and go to your profile
>tap account settings
>scroll down to subscriptions
>opt to cancel your subscription
Can I access WOWC® if I am outside the UK?
Yes, the SHIELD™ programme and WOWC® app are available globally, allowing women worldwide to access trauma recovery tools and join the support community.
Is there live support or counselling available?
WOWC® does not offer live counselling but provides self-paced therapeutic resources and access to a supportive community. We recommend seeking local support services for in-person counselling and support.
Can I join the WOWC® community if I haven't experienced domestic abuse?
WOWC® is designed for survivors and those impacted by domestic abuse. However, we welcome allies, professionals and organisations to support our mission and join as corporate or public sector partners.

How can my organisation partner with WOWC®?
We collaborate with corporates, public sector bodies and charities to offer the SHIELD™ programme as part of employee wellness initiatives or support services. Contact us to discuss partnership opportunities.
Do you offer corporate training or workshops?
Yes, we offer bespoke training and workshops for organisations, covering domestic abuse awareness, trauma-informed support and workplace well-being strategies.
What is the cost for organisations to offer SHIELD™ to their employees or service users?
We offer custom packages based on the size of your organisation and the number of referrals. Contact us for tailored pricing details.
